Google is rolling out a new mobile update…
From April 21st Google are rolling out a mobile update for their search engine. How does this affect Martial Arts schools?
If your Martial Arts website doesn’t work well on mobile devices or tablets you might see your website ranking drop in Google.
Why are Google doing this?
If 2014 wasn’t the year of mobile, then 2015 is. More consumers are using mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones to view websites. Google wants to make sure that people using their search engine get the best experience possible.
How to check your website for mobile compatibility
Thankfully Google have a mobile friendly test that you can use to check if your website works on a mobile or is responsive (meaning your website resizes itself accordingly depending on the device being used to view it).
Go to Mobile Friendly Test to test your website. If the tool detects a problem with your website then you may see something like this:
In this instance you’ll need to speak to a web developer to get the issues fixed or you can apply the fixes yourself if you’re comfortable with coding in HTML and CSS.
Is it time for a new website?
If you have to use a web developer to make your website responsive then it’s best to get two or three quotes first before you commit to the work. It could be more cost effective to have your website redesigned from scratch, especially if it isn’t converting enough visits into leads. Of course, if you do go down this route ensure you specify that your new site is responsive when you brief the designer.
Regardless of Google your website should be mobile friendly…
With mobile apps such as Facebook, it’s important to make sure your website is mobile friendly, especially if you rely on Facebook advertising for acquiring new students. A mobile website should help you convert more mobile leads into new students.
Summary
Having a website that is mobile friendly is not only good for your search engine ranking but it helps with converting visitors from other mobile channels such as Facebook.
